\nFor our biggest celebration—the company's birthday—we traditionally need three things: bright sunshine, Siberian warmth, and the entire team brought together. That is why we always celebrate in summer, transforming Novosibirsk into a global hub for IT talent.
\nWe are a distributed team, and that is our strength. In 2022, our colleagues came from Moscow, Simferopol, Sochi, Bishkek, Yerevan, Krasnoyarsk, Kemerovo, St. Petersburg, and Minsk for celebration in Novosibirsk. The list of cities grows each year, but our unity remains unchanged.
\nGeography and time zones may vary, but our values are still shared. We cherish openness, lack of red tape, and a genuine desire to build great products. For many team members, this summer meet-up is the first opportunity to break out of the virtual world and meet the people they have spent the year with, tackling hard architectural challenges or addressing bugs in Kotlin Multiplatform.
\nThe days leading up to the main celebration are a rare and precious opportunity to work side by side in our Novosibirsk office. This is a magical time when task discussions move from Slack to the coffee machine, and ideas are born right over a shared lunch.
\nWork hours pass unnoticed, easily moving into warm evenings. Once tasks are complete, we go along the Ob River embankment and talk about refactoring, life, hobbies, and future plans. Outside of professional conversations, we discover new aspects of ourselves: some are brilliant guitarists, others are extreme tourism enthusiasts, and some are indie film buffs. It is in these moments when the “team spirit” mentioned in job advertising emerges—the energy we can physically sense.
\nThe celebration culminates in a major corporate party. This year, we decided a simple dinner event was not enough and went yachting across the Ob Sea. Just imagine: wind in your face, the yacht is tilting, splashing water, and you need to operate as one team.
\nYachting is the perfect metaphor for our work. For the boat to stay on course, everyone matters: from the person at the helm to those managing the sheets. It was real racing, team battles, and incredible excitement. Despite the overwhelming emotions and fierce competition, no one fell overboard—professional excellence and team support held strong once again.
\nThen we moved to the shore. Outdoor tabletop games, a dash of competitiveness, and endless support—everyone found an activity to their liking. It is not just entertainment, but a chance to feel that at IceRock, you will never have to face a problem on your own.
\nThe evening ended with a dinner overlooking the sea. As the sun slowly dips below the horizon, painting the sky over the Ob Sea in incredible colors, it is time for the most important thing: heartfelt conversations, expressions of gratitude, and the we-are-together-in-this feeling.
\nWe break down the barriers between job titles while listening to our favorite songs, dancing, and singing. At IceRock, there is no rigid hierarchy of bosses and subordinates.
